GCash parent firm Mynt announced a key leadership change on Thursday, appointing Evelyn Ng as its new chief financial officer (CFO) effective May 1, 2025, following the retirement of longtime finance head Tek Olaño.

According to an insider, Olaño is stepping down due to personal reasons but will continue to support GCash while ensuring a smooth transition with the promotion of Ng, who joined as deputy CFO two months ago.

Olaño is a Globe veteran with nearly a decade in key finance roles, including treasury, investor relations, and financial planning from 2011 to 2020.

“The Mynt leadership and board of directors express their sincere gratitude to Tek Olaño for his invaluable contributions,” Mynt said in a statement.

He joined Mynt as CFO in March 2020, a pivotal moment as pandemic lockdowns began. GCash provided critical online payments during this period, sealing its position as the Philippines’ leading fintech.

“Tek Olaño was instrumental in leading the company to profitability in 2021—three years ahead of target—establishing GCash as one of the few profitable fintech players in the world. He leaves Mynt in excellent financial health, with continued hyper-growth momentum,” Mynt said.

In 2024, he played a key role in negotiations that led to the entry of Japan’s MUFG and resulted in a landmark $5 billion valuation.

The deal cemented GCash’s position as the Philippines’ fourth-largest financial institution, behind the country’s top banks.

Mynt, led by chair Ernest Cu and CEO Martha Sazon, taps its deep bench of professionals with Olaño’s retirement.

Ng brings 23 years of global finance leadership experience, having held key roles at Procter & Gamble and Universal Robina Corp.

"She is recognized for her strategic business acumen, strong finance and accounting expertise, and capabilities in organizational development,"  Mynt said.

"Evelyn has led regional brand expansions and successfully transformed low-margin businesses into sustainable, high-margin operations. Her career spans the Philippines, China, and Singapore, with responsibilities across Asia Pacific, Greater China, the Middle East, and Africa," the company added.

She graduated summa cum laude and was University Valedictorian at the University of the Philippines Diliman. In 2000, she placed  first in the October Accountancy Board Exams.
