Ex-BSP governor Felipe Medalla joins board of San Miguel Corp.

Tycoon Ramon Ang-led San Miguel Corp. said its board elected Dr. Felipe M. Medalla as an independent director, filling the vacancy left by Ramon F. Villavicencio’s resignation.

Medalla served as governor and chair of the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) from July 1, 2022 until July 2, 2023, and was a Monetary Board member from 2011 to 2022. 

He was Secretary of Socio-Economic Planning and Director General of the National Economic and Development Authority from 1998 to 2001.

An academic for 35 years, Dr. Medalla was Dean of the School of Economics at the University of the Philippines - Diliman and a professor there. He holds a PhD in Economics from Northwestern University, an MA in Economics from the University of the Philippines, and an AB-BSC (Economics-Accounting) cum laude from De La Salle University.

“He brings with him years of economics and finance experience from the perspective of the government sector, all of which equip him with expertise and proficiency in attending to the needs and requirements of the company. Dr. Medalla shall serve as an independent director for the unexpired term of his predecessor,” SMC said on Thursday.
