Alcantaras' Alsons raises P1.6B to power expansion

The Alcantara family’s listed Alsons Consolidated Resources (ACR) has raised P1.6 billion through the Philippine Dealing and Exchange Corp. (PDEx) as part of its P3-billion commercial paper program, boosting its expansion plans.

The company is ramping up its renewable energy portfolio, having completed the 14.5-megawatt Siguil Hydro Power Plant in Sarangani in 2024.

“This commercial paper program provides us with an efficient and cost-effective way to support our working capital requirements, enabling us to fulfill our mission of unlocking potential and empowering progress in Mindanao and beyond,” ACR deputy chief financial officer Philip Edward B. Sagun said in a statement.

ACR remains a major energy provider in Mindanao, supplying power through its 237-MW Sarangani Energy Corp. baseload plant and offering grid support via its Iligan and Zamboanga facilities.

The company is also developing new hydro and solar projects to strengthen its clean energy footprint. Beyond generation, ACR is growing its retail electricity supply (RES) business, securing 43 MW in contracts with Holcim Philippines and Metro Retail Stores Group Inc.

“We are also anticipating the completion and operation of the first phase of our 95.2-megawatt Bohol In-Island Diesel Power Plant in Ubay, our first power project outside of Mindanao,” Sagun said.

“The project is designed to provide a reliable backup power source for consumers in Bohol, ensuring a continuous electricity supply when the province is isolated from the Visayas grid due to calamities or natural disasters,” he added.
