This adjustment translates to a reduction of approximately P198 for households consuming 200 kWh, effectively reversing the rate hikes observed since January 2024 to a net decrease of P0.3066 per kWh.
The decline is attributed to lower generation and transmission costs, including decreased charges from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Power Supply Agreements (PSAs), despite a rise in Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) charges.
Meralco credits the reduction to lower fuel costs and the Energy Regulatory Commission's interventions. While welcoming the rate cut, Meralco encourages continued energy efficiency among consumers, particularly during the warmer months.
