Philippine lawmakers have allocated P2.5 billion in subsidies to public utility vehicle operators this year, Makati City Rep. Luis Campos Jr. said on Tuesday.

This financial support aims to mitigate the impact of soaring fuel prices on drivers across the nation.

The allocation, part of the 2024 national budget, will benefit drivers of tricycles, ride-hailing services, and delivery vehicles. Additionally, P510 million is earmarked for small farmers reliant on fuel for agricultural machinery.

The move comes in response to significant fuel price hikes, with gasoline and diesel costs rising steeply in recent weeks. The subsidy ensures continued support for those heavily affected by global oil price fluctuations, the lawmaker said.
