Insider Spotlight

  • Expansion: AIC now manages three major international airports and 3,000 digital service points
  • Sustainability: Key projects like the Davao City Bulk Water Supply are entering their second year of full operation
  • The honors: The company secured its second consecutive "Most Innovative" title from the International Finance Awards

Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) is no longer just building infrastructure; it is engineering a "future-ready" ecosystem. By integrating tech-driven solutions into water, airports, and digital connectivity, the investment arm of the Aboitiz Group is shifting from traditional construction to high-tech operational management.

Why it matters

The company’s strategy has earned it the title of Most Innovative Infrastructure Investment Company in the Philippines at the International Finance Awards (IFA) 2025.

This marks the second consecutive year AIC has held the distinction. As the company celebrates its 10th anniversary, the award signals that its pivot toward sustainable, integrated platforms is paying dividends in both social impact and global reputation.

“This second recognition by the International Finance Awards affirms that innovation at AIC is not a one-off achievement, but a discipline we consistently practice. We continue to invest in transformative infrastructure ecosystems that are future-ready, sustainable, and responsive to the evolving needs of the country,” said AIC president and CEO Cosette V. Canilao in a statement.

The gateway strategy

AIC’s airport portfolio is the most visible sign of its scale. In 2025, the company officially began operations at Bohol-Panglao and Laguindingan International Airports.

These hubs join the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), which recently secured the "Airport of the Year in Asia" title at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards. By standardizing high-efficiency operations across these gateways, AIC is positioning the Philippines as a premier regional logistics hub.

Scaling essentials

Beyond transport, AIC is doubling down on "invisible" infrastructure:

  • Water: Its subsidiary, Apo Agua, manages the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project—the country’s largest. It combines industrial-scale supply with the #AmpinganPaniganTamugan watershed protection advocacy.

  • Digital: Through Unity Digital (a joint venture with Partners Group), AIC expanded its footprint to nearly 3,000 points of service in 2025, narrowing the digital divide in underserved provinces.

The bottom line

The IFA award, handed out by the UK-based International Finance magazine, recognizes leadership that benefits the global finance community while maintaining strict corporate governance.

For AIC, the repeat win validates a decade-long transition from a domestic player to a world-class infrastructure innovator.  —Connie Fernandez-Brojan | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
