Insider Spotlight

  • World Cellar expands premium wine access through near-retail pricing and curated selections
  • Araneta City destination joins just 15 Philippine honorees in the 2026 Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards
  • Wine education and sommelier-led experiences strengthen its appeal to both new and seasoned enthusiasts

World Cellar is strengthening its position as a destination for accessible premium wine experiences, combining near-retail pricing, curated selections and wine education to attract a broader base of consumers in Metro Manila.

The concept, located inside World Kitchens at Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City, aims to make quality wines more approachable through direct merchant partnerships, sommelier guidance and food pairings across 15 dining concepts.

The strategy recently gained international validation after World Cellar received the Award of Excellence in the 2026 Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards, placing it among establishments recognized for outstanding wine programs.

Presented annually by Wine Spectator, the awards honor restaurants and cellars with excellence in wine selection, presentation and service.

This year, World Cellar was given the Award of Excellence, a distinction for restaurants and cellars with wine lists that "feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. | Contributed photo

Why it matters

Premium wine consumption in the Philippines remains a niche market, making accessibility, education and value pricing increasingly important for operators seeking to grow demand beyond traditional enthusiasts.

World Cellar houses around 2,000 bottles spanning approximately 400 labels sourced from established wine regions.

The venue accommodates more than 60 guests in its wine lounge while also serving patrons throughout World Kitchens. Its resident sommelier, Benedict Tan, holds a Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 certification in wines.

The big picture

Wine Spectator recognized more than 4,000 restaurants across over 85 countries in 2026, with only 15 establishments in the Philippines receiving the Award of Excellence.

Higher distinctions include the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award.

Beyond retail and dining, World Cellar has invested in consumer engagement through weekly Wine 101 classes held every Friday evening and monthly themed wine dinners that introduce guests to new varieties and curated food pairings.

The initiatives are designed to encourage exploration beyond familiar labels while building appreciation for wine culture.

World Cellar also benefits from its location inside World Kitchens, which has earned multiple industry recognitions, including Food & Beverage Retailer of the Year – Philippines at the 2025 Retail Asia Awards, reinforcing Araneta City's push to establish itself as a lifestyle and culinary destination. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S.
