Insider Spotlight

  • Davao creative sector gains momentum through cross-sector collaboration
  • 2025 summit brought together more than 300 stakeholders
  • Alcantara Foundation, Alsons Dev recognized for arts initiative

Davao City’s creative industry is gaining stronger institutional backing as public, private, and cultural stakeholders deepen collaboration to build a more sustainable ecosystem for artists and cultural workers.

The effort reflects growing recognition that creative industries can contribute to economic development, tourism, and stronger community identity while preserving local heritage.

That momentum received national recognition after the Conrado Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation Inc. (Alcantara Foundation) was named a Finalist in the Outstanding CSR Project for Arts and Culture category at the 2026 CSR Guild Awards on June 30 at The Westin Manila in Mandaluyong City.

The citation recognized the foundation’s joint corporate social responsibility initiative with Alsons Development and Investment Corporation (Alsons Dev).

Why it matters

Arts and culture initiatives are increasingly becoming part of corporate social responsibility strategies as businesses look beyond infrastructure and livelihoods to support inclusive and sustainable community development.

A centerpiece of the initiative is the 2025 Culture, Arts, and Heritage Summit, which convened more than 300 artists, cultural workers, government representatives, academic institutions, and private sector leaders.

The summit served as a multi-stakeholder platform to identify sector priorities, co-develop strategies, and foster an enabling environment for long-term creative growth in Davao City.

The CSR Guild Awards is organized by the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) to recognize corporate social responsibility programs and collaborations among its member organizations that generate meaningful and sustainable social impact across the Philippines.

The executive view

“This recognition affirms something we have long believed—that culture is not peripheral to development; it is central to it,” Alsons Dev president and CEO Miguel Rene A. Dominguez said in a statement. “We remain committed to creating opportunities for partnerships across sectors because lasting progress is built when we nurture communities that are both livable and culturally vibrant.”

The backdrop

The Alcantara Foundation serves as the corporate social responsibility arm of the Alcantara Group, with Alsons Dev among its member companies.

Through the foundation, Alsons Dev advances programs that integrate culture, arts, and heritage into broader community development initiatives, helping strengthen local identity, encourage cultural appreciation, and foster pride among communities while supporting a more vibrant creative economy. —Ramon C.
