Insider Spotlight

  • BDO Pay puts bank accounts and cards in one app, eliminating the need to cash in before making digital payments
  • Users can send money, split bills and transfer funds via InstaPay and PESONet with no fees
  • The Asian Banker recognition underscores a broader shift: digital wallets are evolving into everyday banking hubs built around convenience and ecosystem integration

BDO is betting that the next phase of digital payments will be won not by adding another wallet to consumers’ phones, but by removing friction from how they already manage money.

Its BDO Pay app connects users directly to their BDO accounts and cards, allowing them to pay in stores, transfer funds, settle bills and monitor balances without cashing in or jumping between platforms.

Why it matters

That push has earned BDO Pay the Best Digital Wallet in the Philippines title at The Asian Banker Philippine Awards 2026, recognition that reinforces the bank’s strategy of turning its wallet into a broader everyday banking tool.

The big picture

Digital wallets are increasingly competing on more than payment acceptance. BDO Pay combines transactions with access to rewards and offers, giving customers ways to extract additional value from purchases while keeping banking functions within one app.

What they're saying

“By combining comprehensive functionality with strong customer adoption and ecosystem integration, BDO Pay has established a differentiated digital banking experience,” the Asian Banker said.

BDO Pay’s proposition is particularly focused on reducing the cost and complexity of routine money movement. Customers can pay, send money, split bills and make InstaPay and PESONet transfers without fees.

“Everyday payments should be easy and cost less. With BDO Pay, users can pay, send money, split bills, and transfer funds via InstaPay and PESONet with no fees—giving them more flexibility and more value in every transaction,” head of digital for consumer banking at BDO Roy Villareal said in a press statement.

By the numbers

BDO has more than 2,000 consolidated operating branches and over 7,900 teller machines nationwide, alongside 13 international offices. As of March 31, 2026, it ranked as the Philippines’ largest bank by total assets, loans, deposits and trust funds under management, based on published statements of condition.

The bottom line

BDO Pay’s recognition shows how competition in digital finance is shifting toward making everyday banking simpler, cheaper and more tightly connected to customers’ existing financial relationships. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
