BYD Co. Ltd. chair and president Wang Chuanfu has reaffirmed the Philippines' strategic importance in the Chinese automaker's global electrification ambitions following a visit that underscored the company's growing partnership with ACMobility and the continued expansion of BYD and DENZA in the local market.

The visit celebrated the progress made since ACMobility became BYD's Philippine partner in 2023 and included tours of BYD dealerships, Denza showrooms in Alabang and Cebu, and ACMobility charging hubs, the company said in a statement.

Wang also met frontline employees, customers, dealer principals, and business partners as the company assessed the country's rapidly developing electric vehicle ecosystem.

Why it matters

The visit signals continued confidence in the Philippine market as global electric vehicle manufacturers intensify efforts to expand across Southeast Asia, where demand for cleaner transportation and supporting infrastructure continues to grow.

"The Philippines has become one of the most exciting and promising markets for New Energy Vehicles in the region,” Wang said. "We are encouraged by the strong momentum of electrification and by the commitment of our partners at ACMobility to our customers. At BYD, everything begins with our customers — understanding their needs, investing continuously in research and development, and creating technology that genuinely improves people's lives. Together, we are building a smarter, electrified mobility ecosystem that will benefit more Filipinos in the years ahead.”

ACMobility CEO Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala said the partnership extends beyond vehicle sales by investing across the ownership journey, including charging infrastructure, retail distribution, and after-sales services.

The big picture

BYD's Philippine dealership network now spans 81 locations, while premium marque Denza operates four dealerships nationwide, giving customers broader access to electrified mobility solutions. Company executives said network expansion and customer experience remain priorities as adoption accelerates.

"The chairman's visit is a strong vote of confidence not only in ACMobility but also in the tremendous potential of the Philippine market," BYD Cars Philippines managing director Bob Palanca said.

"It reflects the progress we have achieved together over the past three years and reinforces our commitment to making world-class electrified vehicles more accessible to Filipinos. As demand continues to grow, we remain focused on expanding our line up to deliver innovative products for every Filipino driver and providing exceptional ownership experience.”

ACMobility said it is also expanding its electric vehicle charging network, which now covers more than 200 locations nationwide, while developing digital solutions to improve access to charging infrastructure and service centers.
