PLDT and Smart are pushing digital inclusion beyond connectivity, using artificial intelligence (AI) training and technology competitions to equip Filipinos with disabilities with skills that can translate into jobs, freelance work and greater economic participation.

The push has earned the PLDT Group “Champions of Accessibility” honors at the National Council on Disability Affairs’ (NCDA) Partners in Inclusion, National NCDA Awards for Championing Lasting Excellence, or PINNACLE. The recognition highlights the group’s programs promoting accessible infrastructure, technology and digital inclusion.

PLDT and Smart, working with Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired, helped more than 266 persons with disabilities access digital innovations in 2026.

Its “AI for All” module covers generative AI, large language models, social media management, logo design and branding—skills aimed at opening freelancing and other income-generating opportunities. Cybersecurity modules also raise awareness about scams and fraud.

“We believe technology should create opportunities, not barriers,” assistant vice president and head of stakeholder engagement Stephanie V. Orlino said in a press statement. 

“Working alongside the NCDA and our partners, we are committed to making digital tools and connectivity more accessible so that persons with disabilities have more opportunities to learn new skills, pursue their ambitions, and thrive in an increasingly digital world. Recognition like this inspires us to keep building programs that make inclusion a reality,” she added. 

The bigger picture

PLDT and Smart have supported NCDA’s technology challenge for youth with disabilities since 2024. This year, 42 participants from 12 LGUs competed in categories including eContent Video Making, eCreative Smart Car and eInteractive AI Games. The best finisher in each category will represent the Philippines at the global competition in Da Nang, Vietnam, in October.
