Insider Spotlight

  • Megaworld expands public-private programs supporting military outreach, sustainability, and disaster preparedness
  • Partnership includes enlistment campaigns, blood donation drives, and a 3.5-million-tree initiative
  • Collaboration underscores growing private sector participation in nation-building efforts

Megaworld is strengthening its role in nation-building through an expanding collaboration with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), supporting initiatives that range from military recruitment awareness and humanitarian programs to environmental sustainability and disaster preparedness.

The partnership reflects how private sector resources are increasingly being tapped to amplify community-focused government programs and build long-term national resilience.

The latest milestone came as the AFP conferred its inaugural Golden Flame Partnership Award on Megaworld president and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso, recognizing the property developer’s sustained support for the Philippine Army’s nation-building initiatives under her leadership.

The award was presented by AFP Chief of Staff Romeo Brawner Jr. at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo and honors individuals, companies, foundations, and organizations that have significantly advanced the military’s mission.

Why it matters

Public-private partnerships have become an important pillar in extending the reach of government programs beyond traditional channels.

By leveraging its townships, malls, and digital platforms, Megaworld helps the Philippine Army broaden public engagement while encouraging patriotism, volunteerism, and civic participation.

The collaboration includes communication and information campaigns that promote military enlistment, patriotism, and nationalism among Filipinos.

It also features regular blood donation drives across Megaworld developments, helping maintain emergency blood reserves while encouraging employees, Army personnel, and the public to volunteer.

The bigger picture

Sustainability has also become a key component of the partnership. Through Megaworld’s MEGreen program, the company works with the Philippine Army on Project Tree Point Five Million, an initiative targeting the planting of 3.5 million trees across Metro Manila, Cavite, Pampanga, Palawan, Cebu, and Iloilo.

The effort aims to establish carbon forests and contribute to climate change mitigation through large-scale reforestation.

Beyond environmental projects, the partnership also covers strategic communications, capability development, emergency preparedness, disaster response, and community engagement.

Together, these initiatives reinforce Megaworld’s long-standing collaboration with the Philippine Army while supporting broader efforts to strengthen communities and advance national development. —Daxim L. Lucas| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
