Insider Spotlight

  • Watsons Philippines is using electric vehicle deliveries to push sustainability deeper into its supply chain while opening logistics roles to more women
  • Four electric trucks will initially serve the retailer, with charging infrastructure determining the pace and geographic reach of expansion
  • Mober said lady drivers will join the initiative, bringing a gender-inclusion component to an industry traditionally dominated by men

Watsons Philippines is tying its push for lower-emission logistics to a broader inclusion agenda, using the transition to electric delivery vehicles to create opportunities for women in a traditionally male-dominated segment of the workforce.

The health and beauty retailer on Aug. 14 unveiled a partnership with electric logistics provider Mober, initially deploying four EV trucks in its delivery network. Watsons said the initiative extends sustainability into the movement of products between its distribution network, stores and customers.

Why it matters

The partnership highlights how companies can connect environmental targets with workforce inclusion as they rethink established logistics operations.

"Through this partnership, Watsons is leading the shift to greener deliveries by introducing electric vehicles into its logistics network,” Mober chief executive officer Dennis Ng said during the media launch.

Watsons Philippines is taking another step toward more sustainable operations through its partnership with Mober, the Philippines' pioneer in 100 percent electric logistics. “More importantly, this initiative also creates opportunities for women to take the wheel and build careers in an industry traditionally dominated by men. We are proud that lady drivers will be part of this journey,” said Ng.

The operational hurdle

Charging infrastructure will influence how quickly the electric fleet can move beyond its initial service area.

“We will put one charger here (distribution center in Laguna). But soon, we've identified where to install our own charging station. From there, it's very convenient for them to charge the trucks. That's why we can't expand right now in other areas. Because we design it or we project it so that the distance is still close to the charging station," Watsons senior assistant vice president for marketing, public relations and sustainability Sharon Decapia said during an interview.

What they're saying

Watsons views the initial deployment as a starting point.

"We are proud to work with Mober whose expertise in sustainable logistics complement our commitment to building sustainable operations. We see this today as a baby step but an important step, an opportunity to explore what more we can achieve together. We start with four trucks but I know that we will not end with four trucks," Watsons managing director Danilo S. Chiong said.

“For us, sustainability is not a stand-alone initiative. It's part of how we do business and the choices that we make every day. The collaboration with Watsons and Mober demonstrates how sustainability can be translated into practical everyday action by finding better ways to operate while continuing to deliver the quality of service that our customers demand from us,” Chiong added.

Toward greener operations

The Mober partnership brings this commitment into Watsons’ supply chain  through Mober’s 100 percent electric fleet, Watsons is integrating electric mobility into its delivery operations, helping reduce direct tailpipe emissions and make the movement of products more sustainable.

Watsons said that four EV delivery trucks made 109 trips from March to May 2026, avoiding 656 kg of carbon dioxide emissions. Its distribution centers in Laguna, Cebu and Pampanga use solar panels, while its retail network includes 480 Greener Stores nationwide.

The beauty brand also said it diverted 75 percent of its waste from landfills in the first half of 2026, with 163,603 kg of waste treated through more sustainable waste-management practices. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
