Insider Spotlight
United Parcel Service (UPS) has opened its expanded $80-million logistics hub at Clark International Airport (CRK), reinforcing the development of Clark AeroDistrict by Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) Corp.
The 30,000-square-meter facility is more than 15 times larger than UPS’s previous Clark hub, supporting faster shipment processing and improved access to international markets.
Strengthening services
The investment increases UPS’s average daily package volume from 5,000 to 46,000, while maximum processing capacity rises from 1,250 to 15,000 packages per hour.
The facility also introduces UPS Philippines’ first automated small-package sorting system, capable of processing 9,000 packages weighing less than three kilograms per hour.
These improvements strengthen services across more than 1,100 international trade lanes, connecting Philippine businesses to Asia Pacific, India, Europe, and the United States.
More than an airport
“Clark International Airport has always been more than an airport. It is a gateway that connects people, businesses, and opportunities,” LIPAD president and CEO Noel Manankil said in a press statement.
“Developments such as the new UPS hub demonstrate the growing role of Clark AeroDistrict in supporting global trade and logistics,” he added.
UPS operates 170 weekly flight segments through Clark, providing businesses access to major international markets in as little as one business day.
The hub also supports temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments through specialized refrigeration facilities and advanced tracking technology.
Beyond logistics, the investment has generated nearly 600 jobs across operations, security, information technology, and technical services, benefiting Pampanga and neighboring communities.
The expansion supports LIPAD’s 759-hectare Clark AeroDistrict masterplan, designed by AECOM to integrate aviation, cargo, logistics, commercial developments, and future airport expansion. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
