The new Mediterranean Shipping Company service gives Adriatic Gate Container Terminal in Rijeka a second weekly direct connection to the Far East, boosting capacity and reducing reliance on longer routings through Northern European ports.
The move reinforces Rijeka’s push to capture a larger share of Asia-Europe trade as shipping lines seek faster and more flexible gateway options for regional cargo.
“We are grateful to MSC for their trust in AGCT as one of their main gateway terminals in the Adriatic,” AGCT CEO Iñigo Mendibe said in a statement on Thursday.
The Phoenix service links Rijeka directly with major ports in China, South Korea and Singapore, strengthening supply chains serving manufacturers, retailers and logistics operators in nearby landlocked economies.
MSC is also moving toward deploying vessels exceeding 13,000 TEUs on the route, signaling confidence in cargo demand along the Asia-Adriatic corridor.
For ICTSI, the expansion deepens its relationship with the world’s largest container shipping line and further cements Rijeka’s role as one of its key European gateways.
