Real estate giant Ayala Land has transferred 63 hectares of land to beneficiaries on Sicogon Island, delivering on a key commitment under a settlement reached after years of disputes over the tourism estate’s development.

The property developer, through Sicogon Island Tourism Estate Corp., formalized the donation of 30 hectares of residential land and 33 hectares of agricultural land to members of the Federation of Sicogon Island Farmers and Fisherfolk Association.

The turnover marks a major commitment fulfilled under the amended Compromise and Framework Agreement covering the island’s development in Carles, Iloilo.

“These milestones reflect the progress that can be achieved through sustained collaboration among communities, government, and the private sector,” Cris Zuluaga, head of Ayala Land Leisure Estates, said in a statement on Thursday.

Housing funds released

The dispute centered on land rights, housing and livelihood issues as Ayala Land and its partners pursued the development of Sicogon as a tourism destination.

Ayala Land also released the remaining P29 million housing fund earmarked for beneficiary families.

The latest payout adds to P38 million in livelihood assistance released in 2024 and brings total funding for land development and housing construction under the agreement to P256 million.

The funding has supported the completion of 784 homes covered by the agreement.
