More Filipinos book overseas trips for Undas 2026 —AirAsia MOVE

More Filipino travelers are choosing international destinations for the Undas holiday break, with overseas hotel bookings more than doubling their share of reservations compared with last year, according to travel booking platform AirAsia MOVE.

Booking data from the platform showed that international flight reservations accounted for 17 percent of total bookings for Undas 2026, up from 14 percent in 2025.

The increase was more pronounced in hotel reservations, where international destinations captured 38 percent of bookings, more than double the 18 percent recorded a year earlier.

The trend suggests growing interest in overseas leisure travel during the traditional observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, although domestic destinations continue to dominate overall bookings.

Domestic travel leads

Domestic destinations accounted for 83 percent of flight bookings, down slightly from 86 percent in 2025, AirAsia MOVE said in a statemet.

Their share of hotel bookings, however, declined by 20 percentage points to 62 percent from 82 percent, reflecting the increasing popularity of overseas accommodations.

Boracay remained among the leading domestic destinations across flight, hotel and SNAP! flight-and-hotel package bookings.

Cebu and Manila also maintained strong positions, while Iloilo and Tacloban emerged among the leading destinations for domestic flights and accommodations.

Despite the growing interest in international travel, domestic destinations increased their share of SNAP! package bookings to 76 percent from 66 percent in 2025.

Boracay, Cebu and Manila were among the most frequently booked destinations for these bundled travel packages.

Overseas favorites

Taipei emerged as the leading international destination across flight, hotel and SNAP! bookings for Undas 2026.

Da Nang in Vietnam also ranked among the top international destinations for flights and hotels, while Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, featured prominently across all three booking categories.

Bangkok, Thailand, remained a popular choice for hotel reservations and bundled travel packages.

The rankings reflect continued interest in nearby Asian destinations, including those offering visa-free entry to Philippine passport holders.

Group travel grows

AirAsia MOVE's data also showed changing travel patterns, with more Filipinos booking trips for couples, families and small groups.

Solo travelers remained the largest segment of flight bookings at 55 percent, although their share declined from 66 percent in 2025.

Bookings for two travelers increased to 22 percent from 18 percent, while small-group reservations climbed to 10 percent from 6 percent.

Family flight bookings also rose to 10 percent from 8 percent.

A similar pattern emerged in hotel reservations, where family bookings increased to 17 percent from 6.5 percent.

Couples continued to dominate hotel bookings at 58 percent, although their share declined from 72 percent last year.

The figures indicate a growing preference for shared travel experiences during the holiday period.

Earlier travel planning

Travelers also appear to be planning their Undas trips further in advance.

In 2025, 51 percent of flight bookings were made within two weeks of departure.

For 2026, however, 72 percent of reservations were made at least 15 days before departure, indicating a shift toward earlier booking.

Despite changes in destinations and booking behavior, the average trip duration remained unchanged at six days.

AirAsia MOVE Philippines country representative Malou Japson said the findings showed that traditional family observances and leisure travel could coexist during Undas.

“What stands out is that familiar travel traditions and the desire to explore new places can coexist,” Japson said.

She added that the holiday continued to provide opportunities for Filipinos to reconnect with family while exploring destinations beyond their usual routines.
