Insider Spotlight
Starting June 11, 2026, the airline will operate daily flights between Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport. Flights will depart Cebu at 4:05 a.m. and arrive in Bangkok at 7:05 a.m., giving travelers early access to the Thai capital and enabling same-day connections.
Why it matters
The new route positions Cebu as a stronger gateway for travelers from the Visayas and nearby regions seeking direct international access without passing through Manila. For AirAsia, the expansion supports its strategy of building secondary hubs outside the Philippine capital to meet rising travel demand across Southeast Asia.
The details
Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport serves as one of the largest hubs within the AirAsia Aviation Group. From there, Cebu passengers can connect to a wide network of destinations, including 42 domestic routes across 25 cities in Thailand and 60 international destinations across Asia.
The expansion was announced in a company release highlighting Cebu’s growing importance in the airline’s Philippine network.
The other side
The route also aims to boost inbound tourism to Central Visayas, the country’s most visited region by foreign travelers. A review by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies found that Central Visayas recorded 31.5 million international visitors between 2000 and 2024.
Cebu continues to attract global tourists with its mix of urban attractions, historical landmarks, diving sites, and island destinations.
Zoom out
The Cebu–Bangkok launch follows AirAsia Philippines’ push to build up its Cebu hub since November 2025. The airline has already introduced flights connecting Cebu to Macao, Kuala Lumpur, Caticlan, and Davao.
What’s next
AirAsia is also expanding its Manila international network. Beginning March 30, the airline will add five more weekly flights between Manila and Taipei. Additional weekly services to Kaohsiung will start April 3, followed by three more flights between Manila and Macao starting April 4. —Princess Daisy C. Ominga | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
