The move also reinforces Manila's role as a regional gateway linking North America with Southeast Asia.
PAL will increase Manila-Vancouver flights from seven to 10 weekly effective Nov. 17, raise Manila-Toronto operations from three to four weekly flights starting Dec. 5, and expand Manila-New York (JFK) services from three to four weekly flights beginning Dec. 2.
New York will also get a fifth weekly flight during the December 2026 to January 2027 holiday travel season.
The big picture
The expansion further strengthens PAL's leadership in the Philippines-North America market while cementing its position as the Southeast Asian airline operating the highest number of nonstop flights between the region and North America. The additional services are expected to provide travelers with greater flexibility while supporting tourism, trade and business ties.
"North America continues to be one of Philippine Airlines’ most important markets," PAL president Richard Nuttall said in a press statement.
"As travel demand grows, these additional flights strengthen our position as the preferred nonstop carrier between the Philippines and North America whilst providing our customers with greater choice, improved connectivity, and more opportunities to travel, do business, and reconnect with family and loved ones,” he added.
Why it matters
The increased flight frequencies will improve onward connections through Manila to destinations including Jakarta, Bali, Phnom Penh, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hanoi.
Through PAL's partnerships with American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and WestJet, passengers will also gain broader access to destinations across the United States and Canada. The additional flights are likewise expected to boost cargo capacity for growing trade, e-commerce and high-value shipments.
PAL said additional Toronto and New York services will initially use the Airbus A350-900 before transitioning to the Airbus A350-1000 as more aircraft join its fleet.
The larger aircraft will begin serving San Francisco in August 2026. Together with the planned launch of thrice-weekly Manila-Chicago flights on Nov. 9, the expanded schedule forms part of the airline's long-term growth strategy to strengthen Manila as a premier trans-Pacific aviation hub. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S.
