  • Flexible payment options are being added to help broaden access to air travel. PAL bets on advance travel demand through discounted fares

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is seeking to stimulate advance travel bookings by offering significant fare discounts months before the intended travel period, a strategy aimed at encouraging consumers to commit to leisure, family and long-haul trips earlier while helping the carrier secure future demand.

The airline's Freedom Seat Sale will run from June 15 to 17, offering up to 50 percent off domestic and up to 40 percent off international round-trip economy base fares from the Philippines for travel beginning August 2026.

The campaign comes as airlines continue to use promotional fares to improve booking visibility and encourage travelers to finalize plans well in advance.

Why it matters

Advance bookings provide airlines with greater revenue certainty while giving consumers access to lower fares. The strategy has become increasingly important as travelers remain price-conscious amid evolving economic conditions.

The sale covers a wide range of destinations across Asia, including Hong Kong, Xiamen, Taipei, Bangkok, Denpasar, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

PAL is also using the promotion to drive domestic travel demand, highlighting destinations such as Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, Iloilo and Davao.

For travelers planning longer trips, the carrier is extending discounted fares to selected routes serving Australia, Canada and the United States.

The offer positions international leisure travel, family reunions and milestone trips as more accessible options for Filipino travelers.

The bigger picture

Beyond airfare discounts, airlines are increasingly competing on the overall value of the travel experience. PAL noted that meals, baggage allowance and other full-service features remain included in eligible bookings, reinforcing its positioning in the premium full-service segment.

To support affordability, the airline is also offering a 0 percent credit card installment option for domestic bookings worth at least P20,000. The installment plan, available through participating banks including BPI, Metrobank and HSBC, allows travelers to spread payments over three months.
