The initiative recently earned recognition at the 20th Asia Pacific Tambuli Awards, where RCBC received the APAC Tambuli Award under the Masters of Everyday Purpose – Human-Centric Solutions category.
Why it matters
Access to banking services remains a challenge in many rural and geographically isolated areas, where residents often travel long distances to reach bank branches or automated teller machines.
RCBC ATM Go operates through an agency banking model that allows accredited partner merchants to function as community banking touchpoints.
ATM Go has expanded its footprint to all Philippine provinces and is now widely used as a cash-out channel for beneficiaries of the government's Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, RCBC said in a company release. The bank said the solution was designed to address geographical, logistical, and connectivity barriers that have historically limited access to financial services.
“We thank the APAC Tambuli Awards for recognizing our efforts to bring banking services closer to communities that need them most. This recognition affirms our belief that innovation creates the greatest impact when it is rooted in a deep understanding of people’s everyday challenges,” said RCBC executive vice president and chief innovation and inclusion officer Lito Villanueva.
The big picture
Community banking remains central to RCBC’s broader financial inclusion strategy as it develops digital and agency banking solutions for underserved markets.
“ATM Go demonstrates how technology, partnerships, and innovation can work together to expand access to financial services. RCBC remains committed to developing solutions that empower communities, broaden economic participation, and make banking more accessible for every Filipino,” Villanueva added.
RCBC said the recognition adds to its growing list of honors for digital banking and financial inclusion initiatives. —Princess Daisy C. Ominga| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
