Jollibee targets 1,500 new growth areas as expansion shifts to provinces

Tycoon Tony Tan Caktiong’s Jollibee Foods Corp. is setting its sights on more than 1,500 potential expansion areas across the Philippines, betting that provincial markets can fuel its next growth wave as sales gains at existing restaurants slow.

About 71 percent of the identified locations are outside Metro Manila, giving the fast-food giant room to expand its Jollibee, Mang Inasal and Chowking chains between 2027 and 2030.

The opportunity is substantial for a business already operating more than 3,500 stores nationwide, although the company cautioned that not every potential location will become a restaurant.

Provinces in focus

“Our scale provides a strong foundation for future growth, and we see even greater opportunities to reach more consumers, particularly in markets beyond our existing footprint,” said Joseph Tanbuntiong, chief executive officer of Jollibee Group Philippines.

The three chains account for nearly 90 percent of Philippine systemwide sales, with Jollibee alone contributing about 62 percent.

Systemwide sales grew 10 percent in both 2024 and 2025, but same-store sales growth eased from 8 percent to 5 percent, putting greater weight on expansion to sustain momentum.

New formats gain ground

Jollibee is also pushing delivery, digital ordering and drive-thru formats to capture more spending without depending solely on new restaurant openings.

Mang Inasal's first eight drive-thru outlets were already generating average daily sales about 40 percent above other stores in the first half of 2026, suggesting another avenue for growth.

The company opened its first Mang Inasal drive-thru in Bulacan in December 2025 and has since expanded the format as part of its broader push to reach more customers.

Actual openings through 2030 will depend on available sites, expected profitability and investment returns, leaving the pace of expansion tied to commercial demand.
