Frederick Go says Laguindingan airport deal awarded to private sector soon

The Philippines may soon award the Laguindingan International Airport to the Aboitiz Group, marking a significant step in its Public Private Partnership (PPP) efforts aimed at developing critical transportation infrastructure.

This follows the awarding of the P170 billion privatization and modernization of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport to San Miguel Corp., which was the largest PPP project to date, said Frederick Go, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs.

“Within this quarter, we are also expected to award the concession agreement for the Laguindingan International Airport,” Go said during the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines-SMC 2024 business forum on Monday.

Go did not give details on the winner, but Aboitiz, which first proposed the project, was said to be the frontrunner to bag the 35-year concession.

Go emphasized that the modernization and privatization of Naia, considering failed attempts undertaken by past administrations.

“These are testaments to how we have made the process of public-private partnerships very efficient and made it a reality,” Go said.
