President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, highlighting the project as a key step in boosting tourism and improving travel infrastructure.
“The influx of people and travellers is going to be a big boost to the local and national economy. Tourism right now contributes close to 8 percent to our GDP and that is something we want to increase and that is why these projects that we have are also important,” Marcos said.
Caticlan Airport, which serves as the main gateway to Boracay, is currently the fourth busiest in the country, having handled over three million passengers in 2024.
The new terminal will feature modern check-in counters, faster security screening, upgraded baggage systems, and improved boarding gates to reduce queuing and wait times.
Construction will be carried out by Megawide Construction Corp. and is expected to be completed within 24 months. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the value of working with the private sector to accelerate critical infrastructure.
“Napaka-importante ng Public-Private Partnership (PPP) dahil talagang nama-maximize natin ‘yung potential ng mga transport infrastructure," Dizon said.
