MCIA connects to more destinations with AirAsia, Cebu Pacific flights

CEBU, Philippines — The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the country’s second-busiest gateway, has strengthened its role as a key transfer hub with additional domestic flights to top destinations.

“MCIA is fast becoming the Philippines’ most efficient and accessible transfer hub. Through our growing network and strong airline partnerships, we are making it easier for travelers to connect across the archipelago—while delivering a seamless, world-class airport experience that reflects the best of Filipino hospitality,” said Rafael M. Aboitiz, VP and head of airports at Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. (AIC), in a statement.

AIC, the country’s largest airport operator outside Manila, operates MCIA, Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA), and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) in Misamis Oriental.

With its expanding network, increased flight frequencies, and key airline partnerships, Cebu is emerging as a preferred transfer point for travelers heading to top destinations.

AirAsia routes

AirAsia Philippines has added more flights to Davao, Iloilo, and Caticlan—the primary gateway to Boracay Island in Aklan—with increased frequency and more convenient schedules that make point-to-point travel faster and simpler.

The airline now offers earlier morning flights from Cebu to Iloilo, between 6:30 a.m. and 7:55 a.m., providing greater flexibility for both business and leisure travelers. Flights to Caticlan are scheduled from 4:05 p.m. to 5:20 p.m., allowing easier access to Boracay.

In addition, AirAsia has increased its Cebu–Davao–Cebu route to 18 weekly flights, strengthening connectivity between the Visayas and Mindanao.

Cebu Pacific has also added direct flights from Cebu to some of the most sought-after island destinations—El Nido, Siargao, and Coron—alongside over 24 other domestic routes.

33 more flights added by Cebu Pacific

To meet peak summer travel demand, Cebu Pacific is adding 33 weekly flights from MCIA starting March 29. These include routes to Bacolod City, Boracay (via Caticlan), Butuan City, Cagayan de Oro City, Clark, Dumaguete City, Iloilo, Tacloban City, and El Nido.

By mid-June, weekly frequencies will reach up to 23 flights to Butuan City and 17 to Bacolod City.

With 31 direct routes from Cebu and a domestic network spanning 35 destinations, MCIA offers travelers more options and convenience than ever.

International connectivity

MCIA’s domestic network is complemented by its growing international connectivity, providing access to regional and global destinations.

The arrival of Philippine Airlines’ newest aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000, at MCIA on March 12 is also significant. This aircraft is the first of its kind in Asia and among the world’s most advanced long-range wide-body jets, known for fuel efficiency, quieter engines, and enhanced passenger comfort—ideal for long-haul flights.

Passengers now benefit from more direct routes, shorter travel times, and seamless transfers—positioning Cebu not just as a destination, but as a key gateway to the Philippines’ top cities and islands. — Connie Fernandez-Brojan | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
