The company said the Laguindingan modernization—which started last April under a 30-year concession—will include terminal expansion and infrastructure upgrades to accommodate more international routes and growing passenger traffic.
“Airports are not just travel terminals — they are engines of economic activity. Developing world-class regional airports will be key to unlocking Mindanao’s potential,” said Christine Villanueva, AIC Airports head of strategy and communications.
Villanueva said Laguindingan is being positioned as a regional gateway on par with Mactan-Cebu International Airport, also operated by AIC.
The company’s growing airport portfolio now spans Laguindingan, Mactan-Cebu, and Bohol-Panglao, handling more than 20 percent of the country’s total passenger traffic.
Aboitiz InfraCapital first vice president for investments Frocks Roque added that strong public-private collaboration remains crucial in delivering efficient and sustainable infrastructure, highlighting Mindanao’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Facilitation Initiative as a step toward that goal.
