SIA Engineering to open NAIA hub as MRO sector eyes PH expansion

Insider Spotlight:

  • SIAEP’s NAIA facility is set to open by September 2025.
  • The firm already operates an MRO hub in Clark, Pampanga.
  • SIAEP is majority-owned by the Singapore Airlines Group.
  • NNIC expects more MRO players to enter the local market.
  • The move supports NAIA’s modernization and efficiency goals.

Singapore-based SIA Engineering Company Ltd. (SIAEC) is expanding its Philippine footprint with the opening of a new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by September 2025.

The new facility will be operated by its local unit, SIA Engineering (Philippines) Corp. (SIAEP), which already runs operations out of the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.

Why it matters:

The move signals renewed investor confidence in NAIA amid rehabilitation efforts, while strengthening the Philippines’ position in the regional aviation services market.

Driving the news:

SIAEP, which is majority-owned by the Singapore Airlines Group, is among Asia-Pacific’s largest MRO service providers. The company’s expansion comes as part of a broader initiative to turn NAIA into a more competitive and reliable hub—not just for travel, but also for aviation-related industries.

“This is a big boost for NAIA and for Philippine aviation. We welcome SIAEP and look forward to working closely with them to improve support for airlines operating here,” said Ramon Ang, president and CEO of New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).

The big picture:

The entry of SIAEP into NAIA is expected to reduce aircraft turnaround time and improve technical support for airlines using the Manila gateway. The move could also serve as a catalyst for more global MRO players to enter the Philippine market.

“This is part of our broader push to raise NAIA’s standards and make it a better, more reliable gateway not only for travelers, but for the aviation industry as a whole,” Ang added.

Zoom out:

NAIA is undergoing modernization under NNIC, the consortium led by San Miguel Corp., which took over operations in early 2025. The inclusion of major MRO players is part of a multi-pronged strategy to increase airport efficiency and commercial viability.

What’s next:

The opening of the SIAEP facility at NAIA could pave the way for further industry partnerships, offering new job opportunities, technical training, and a boost in aviation sector competitiveness.
