AirAsia Philippines reported over the weekend a significant increase in passenger traffic during the recent holiday season, surpassing its initial projections.

Between Dec. 16, 2024, and Jan. 6, 2025, the airline accommodated over 400,000 passengers, exceeding its forecasted 300,000 travelers for this period, it said in a statement on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.

This uptick reflects a renewed enthusiasm for travel among Filipinos, with many extending their holiday leaves to spend additional time with family in provincial areas, it added.

The AirAsia Philippines spokesperson — who is also a rated commercial pilot — said the carrier is now gearing up for the busy summer travel season.

The airline reported that it maintained smooth operations throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays, underscoring its commitment to providing quality service.

AirAsia Philippines’ communications and public affairs head Steve Dailisan noted, “We expect a continuous increase in passenger traffic at our check-in counters until January 10th, as many of our kababayans have extended their holiday leave to enjoy more time with their loved ones in the provinces.”

Looking ahead, AirAsia Philippines is preparing for the busy summer travel season to key destinations such as Kalibo, Cebu, and Bohol.

The airline is offering promotions to these popular locations, aligning with the Civil Aeronautics Board’s recent advisory on fuel surcharges, which sets fees ranging from P117 to P342 for domestic flights, depending on distance.

To improve travel experience, AirAsia Philippines advised passengers to:

  • Arrive early: Be at the airport at least three hours before the scheduled flight to accommodate check-in and security procedures.
  • Check flight status: Monitor flight schedules through the AirAsia MOVE App or the official website.
  • Pack smart: Adhere to the airline’s baggage policies to prevent check-in delays.
  • Use online check-in: Expedite the pre-flight process by checking in online.
  • Stay connected: Follow AirAsia Philippines on social media for real-time updates and travel advisories.

With these measures, AirAsia Philippines said it aims to continue delivering safe, efficient, and affordable air travel experiences, building on the momentum gained during the holiday season.
