An official from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines told InsiderPH the suspension was implemented on Jan. 22.
AirAsia Philippines, which is part of Malaysian tycoon Anthony Fernandes’ Capital A, had informed its passengers of the changes a few months ago.
“In our pursuit of providing the best travel experiences for our valued guests, AirAsia Philippines is optimizing efficiency by strategically realigning its route network,” the airline, which has 16 operating Airbus A320s, said in a letter to CAAP last November.
“This business direction is focused on ensuring we can respond effectively to increased demand within our route network, thereby effectively putting in place our fleet management strategy for the winter season,” it added.
AirAsia Philippines, which announced increased flights to other more profitable domestic routes, is not ruling out the resumption of Davao operations in the future.
“Decisions such as this are never taken lightly. The management team is committed to further reviewing market conditions to decide on potential resumption of the route in the future,” it said.
