The trial, held at Globe’s Valero Telepark in Makati City, showcased the potential of 50GPON to deliver ultra-fast and reliable internet with speeds of up to 50 Gbps, Globe said in a statement.
This next-generation technology promises enhanced efficiency, reduced latency, and the capability to meet the increasing demands of both residential and enterprise customers. It also surpasses the capabilities of current 10GPON technology, setting a new industry benchmark.
The pilot test included comprehensive evaluations, such as throughput, end-to-end latency, and jitter measurements.
Real-world applications demonstrated during the event included 8K streaming, cloud gaming, augmented and virtual reality, high-definition video conferencing, and fiber-to-the-room solutions.
“Globe is committed to providing Filipinos with the best possible internet experience, and this breakthrough in 50GPON technology is a key component of our future-forward approach to broadband connectivity,” Globe Telecom VP for broadband service planning and engineering James Lim said in the statement.
“With this milestone, we’re taking a giant step towards ensuring our network is ready to support the evolving needs of our customers, both now and in the years to come,” Lim added.
The deployment of 50GPON technology paves the way for transformative digital experiences, enabling smart cities, telemedicine, advanced manufacturing, e-learning, and secure enterprise connectivity.
Globe is now exploring potential areas and early adopters for this innovation, further solidifying its role as a leader in the telecom industry.
This milestone aligns with Globe’s vision of bridging the digital divide and empowering the Philippines with world-class connectivity. —Ed: CSN
