The assistance, offered through the company’s Alagang Globe program, is aimed at helping affected customers maintain contact with family and loved ones while disaster response operations continue.
Seven-day roaming package
Eligible Globe customers in Indonesia will receive 15 minutes of incoming and outgoing calls, 15 text messages to all networks and 1 GB of mobile data, valid for seven days at no additional cost.
No registration is required, Globe said. The roaming package will automatically be activated for eligible customers detected in Indonesia.
Customers need to connect to Globe’s roaming partners Telkomsel or Indosat and wait for a confirmation message indicating that the package is ready for use.
“During emergencies, staying connected becomes even more important, especially for Filipinos who are away from home,” Globe senior director for international business head Paula Rivera-Castillo said in a statement.
“We want to help our customers in Indonesia reach their loved ones and maintain vital lines of communication during this difficult time,” she added.
Staying connected
The earthquake triggered landslides and power outages and damaged homes and public facilities, according to information provided by Globe. Thousands of residents were also displaced, while rescue and damage assessment operations continued in affected areas.
To use the free data allocation, customers may activate mobile data and data roaming in their phone settings after receiving confirmation that the package is active.
Postpaid subscribers, however, are advised to switch on mobile data and data roaming only after receiving the activation message.
For calls and texts, customers should use the “+” sign followed by the appropriate country code and phone number.
Globe said the emergency connectivity assistance is designed to keep communication lines open at a time when customers may need to reach relatives and provide updates on their safety. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
