Millions of Filipinos are relying more heavily on mobile connectivity for entertainment, work, education, business, and everyday transactions, prompting Globe Telecom Inc. to expand its network and digital services to meet growing demand.

Globe said mobile data now accounts for 89 percent of its total mobile service revenues, up from 85 percent a year ago, underscoring the shift away from traditional voice calls and text messaging.

Data surge

During the first quarter of 2026, Globe's mobile business posted revenues of P30 billion, up 6 percent from the same period last year, while its subscriber base grew to around 67 million.

The company attributed the growth to higher demand for video streaming, social media, online gaming, digital payments, and other internet-based services.

Mobile data revenues rose 11 percent year on year, while data traffic increased 18 percent. Average monthly data usage also climbed to about 16 gigabytes per subscriber, reflecting Filipinos' growing dependence on mobile internet.

More than 39 million Globe customers now actively use mobile data services, while the GlobeOne app has expanded its reach to an average of eight million monthly users.

Network investments

To support increasing digital activity, Globe continued expanding its network during the first quarter, rolling out 408 new 5G sites, the telco said in a statement.

The expansion lifted the company's outdoor 5G population coverage to more than 98 percent in Metro Manila and key cities across the Visayas and Mindanao.

"Our priority is to execute on our plans well. We will deliver better customer experience through our digital platforms, and serve products that are relevant through hyperpersonalization,” Globe chief commercial officer Darius Delgado said in the same statement.

“While we continue to expand our 5G network, we intend to deepen our fiber footprint, and differentiate more using digital technologies," Delgado said.

Globe said sustained investments in network quality, customer experience, and next-generation technologies are helping it keep pace with the country's rapidly evolving digital habits as consumers increasingly rely on mobile connectivity for both work and everyday life. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
