Globe urges early connectivity planning for future-ready buildings

Globe Telecom is urging property developers to incorporate telecommunications infrastructure into the early planning and design of residential, commercial and mixed-use developments to avoid costly retrofitting and ensure reliable connectivity when occupants move in.

The telecommunications company said integrating network requirements before construction begins would help developers reduce redesign costs, address infrastructure constraints and prepare buildings for growing demand for digital services.

Globe raised these concerns during its Collaboration Forum 2026, which gathered around 150 participants, including more than 100 external partners from the property sector.

Held under the theme “Design Today. Connect Tomorrow,” the forum brought together developers, architects, designers and technical teams to discuss incorporating connectivity into development master plans.

Early planning

Globe president and CEO Carl Cruz emphasized the importance of collaboration among property developers, technical specialists and telecommunications providers before building designs are finalized.

“The earlier we bring those perspectives together, the better we can plan for what comes next. While the plans are still being shaped, let us sit down together and determine what needs to be built in from the start, with enough flexibility to evolve over time,” Cruz said.

The company said connectivity requirements often become more complicated and expensive to address once construction is underway.

Early coordination allows developers to identify potential network limitations, allocate space for telecommunications facilities and incorporate infrastructure that can accommodate future technological upgrades.

Building standards

Globe's initiative also supports the government's ongoing review of the National Building Code of the Philippines.

The company is advocating the recognition of telecommunications connectivity as an essential utility in modern buildings, alongside other basic infrastructure requirements.

It has called for building standards that incorporate fiber-ready facilities and in-building connectivity systems to improve network reliability and minimize the need for expensive modifications after construction.

Such provisions could help property developers respond to the increasing reliance of households and businesses on digital connectivity.

Digital demand

Globe said residential communities, offices and commercial establishments increasingly require reliable telecommunications services for everyday activities, business operations and digital applications.

Integrating connectivity into development master plans would allow property owners to accommodate changing technology requirements and rising demand for network capacity.

The company said closer collaboration with the property sector could also improve the readiness of new developments for emerging digital technologies.

Through its continuing engagement with developers and industry stakeholders, Globe aims to ensure that telecommunications infrastructure becomes part of initial construction planning rather than an additional requirement addressed after buildings are completed.

The approach is intended to provide residents, tenants and businesses with reliable connectivity from the first day of occupancy. —Ed: Corrie S Narisma
