Insider Spotlight
The move enables UnionBank customers to deposit cash into peso savings and checking accounts beyond traditional bank branches, offering access through kiosks located in convenience stores, groceries, malls, and community centers.
The service is available in locations including Alfamart, Puregold, Lawson, O! Save, and Puremart outlets, helping customers complete transactions closer to home or work.
Why it matters
The partnership addresses a common pain point among customers who still rely heavily on cash transactions, particularly freelancers, small business owners, and workers located far from bank branches.
By extending deposit capabilities outside banking hours and branch locations, UnionBank aims to make financial services more accessible and integrated into daily routines.
“UnionBank continues to design services around how our customers live and work today,” Albert Raymond C. Cuadrante, UnionBank’s chief marketing and experience officer, said in a press statement.
“With ECPay kiosks, we expand access to cash deposit services and provide greater convenience—so banking services are easier to reach as part of customers’ everyday routines,” Cuadranted added.
One of the service’s key features is real-time posting, allowing deposited funds to become immediately available for bills payment, transfers, online purchases, and other transactions.
The bigger picture
Digital banking adoption in the Philippines continues to accelerate, but cash remains widely used across many communities and businesses. Financial institutions are increasingly blending digital platforms with physical touchpoints to improve customer access.
“Our partnership with UnionBank reinforces ECPay’s commitment to bringing essential financial services closer to Filipinos. By making cash deposits available at thousands of kiosks nationwide, we help customers maximize their precious time and manage their money more conveniently—any day, anytime.” said ECPay president and CEO Patricia D. Pascual.
Customers can deposit up to P10,000 per transaction through the kiosks. UnionBank said the initiative complements its existing branch and ATM network while supporting its broader goal of delivering more accessible banking services nationwide. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
