BPI, Robinsons Retail launch barcode cash deposit service

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has partnered with Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. (RRHI) to roll out a barcode-enabled cash deposit service that allows customers to deposit money to BPI accounts through participating retail stores nationwide.

The service was officially launched during the Sun and Fun Fair in Boracay held from April 19 to 21, 2026, marking a significant step in BPI’s push to make banking services more accessible and integrated into Filipinos’ daily routines.

Under the partnership, the deposit feature will be available in more than 1,000 RRHI stores nationwide by the end of the year.

Branch hubs

BPI said the initiative forms part of its broader agency banking strategy, which transforms partner retail stores into “branch hubs” capable of offering essential banking services beyond traditional bank branches.

While deposit transactions through tablets were first introduced in select regional partner stores in 2024, the collaboration with RRHI expands the service nationwide and enhances the customer experience through the BPI mobile app.

Using the app’s barcode-enabled feature, customers can generate a barcode linked to their deposit transaction, which can then be processed at participating partner stores.

The system completes a key component of BPI’s agency banking model by enabling both cash-in and cash-out transactions within retail environments.

“This milestone reinforces our commitment to making banking more accessible and relevant to every Filipino,” said Rally Jereza, head of BPI Agency Banking.

“By enabling partners to facilitate barcode-enabled deposits and withdrawals, as well as account openings and product applications just by scanning a QR code, we are bringing full-service banking to any community in the Philippines—even the most remote islands,” he added.

How it works

To use the service, customers must first log in to the BPI mobile app and access the “Partner store transactions” feature under the “More” tab.

Users can then choose whether to deposit to their own account or another BPI account, input the amount, and generate a barcode.

The generated barcode must be presented to the cashier of a participating partner store within one hour.

After the transaction is processed, customers receive a transaction receipt.

BPI said deposits can be made without a debit card, with customers allowed to deposit up to P15,000 per transaction and up to five times daily, depending on store brand limits.

All transactions in partner stores are free of charge.

Digital banking

RRHI said the partnership reflects its efforts to expand the role of its stores beyond retail and provide customers with more convenient services.

“At RRHI, we are continuously evolving our stores to better serve the everyday needs of our customers,” said Christine Tueres, managing director of RRHI.

“Our partnership with BPI allows us to go beyond retail by offering convenient, accessible financial services within our stores, making essential transactions like deposits and withdrawals part of our customers’ regular shopping routines,” she added.
