The official signing took place at Careem's head office in Dubai, formalizing a direct integration that allows users in the UAE to send money straight to GCash wallets in the Philippines.
The big picture
The collaboration targets one of the largest overseas Filipino communities in the Middle East, many of whom regularly remit funds to support families back home, GCash said in a statement.
By linking Careem Pay directly to GCash, the companies aim to remove friction from cross-border transfers and digitize a process that has long relied on banks and physical remittance centers.
Through the integration, users can avoid common delays tied to traditional bank transfers. Funds are credited directly to recipients’ GCash accounts, typically settling within minutes and ready for immediate use.
Why it matters
Remittances remain a vital pillar of the Philippine economy, with billions of dollars flowing annually from overseas workers.
Speed, reliability, and lower transaction costs are key considerations for Filipino expats who send money home for school fees, household expenses, and daily needs.
“Sending money home is one of the most meaningful things our customers do with Careem Pay. For many Filipino expats, it’s about supporting loved ones, covering school fees, or helping parents with everyday expenses,” said Arjun Varma, general manager for GCash International.
“By integrating directly with GCash and adding cash pickup across nearly 15,000 locations, we’ve made the process simpler, faster, and more reliable, with most transfers now reaching their families in the Philippines within minutes,” said Mohammad El Saadi, vice president of Careem Pay.
How it works
To send money, users need to download the latest version of the Careem app, tap Pay on the home screen, and follow the steps under the Send Abroad tab.
The wallet-to-wallet transfer system eliminates additional steps, ensuring a more seamless experience.
To mark the launch, Careem Pay is offering AED 20 cashback and zero fees on first transfers to the Philippines using the code GCASH20. Careem Plus members can also access exclusive rates.
