Philippine Airlines (PAL) has welcomed the arrival of its second Airbus A350-1000, marking another step in the flag carrier’s fleet modernization program as it seeks to expand capacity and improve long-haul operations.

The aircraft arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila at 5:18 p.m. on May 29. It follows the delivery of PAL’s first A350-1000 in December 2025 and forms part of the airline’s commitment to acquire nine of the widebody aircraft from Airbus.

Why it matters

The arrival underscores PAL’s strategy to modernize its fleet with newer-generation aircraft that offer improved fuel efficiency, reliability, passenger comfort, and environmental performance.

The A350-1000 is designed primarily for long-haul operations, making it a key asset for the airline’s growing international network.

PAL said the aircraft will support services between the Philippines and North America, one of the carrier’s most important long-haul markets. The airline also highlighted its distinction as the first and only operator of the Airbus A350-1000 in Southeast Asia.

What they’re saying

“As demand for international travel continues to grow, this second Airbus A350-1000 will play an important role in enhancing our long-haul operations and elevating the overall passenger experience while supporting the long-term modernization of Philippine Airlines,” Richard Nuttall, president of Philippine Airlines, said in a press statement.

The delivery comes as the airline continues to build on its post-pandemic recovery and transformation efforts. PAL has been investing in operational improvements while renewing its fleet to better compete in the international aviation market.

The bigger picture

The addition of the second A350-1000 reflects broader industry efforts to deploy more fuel-efficient aircraft amid rising travel demand and increasing pressure to improve sustainability performance.

PAL noted that its operational momentum has been recognized internationally. In 2025, aviation analytics firm Cirium named Philippine Airlines the most on-time airline in the Asia-Pacific region, highlighting improvements in reliability as the carrier expands its network and modernizes its fleet. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Corrie S.
