With over 8.2 million debit cardholders nationwide, BPI is among the country’s leading debit card issuers. The introduction of the eco-friendly card marks another milestone in its push to deliver responsible and future-ready financial solutions.
Sustainable shift forward
The new Debit Mastercard is free for clients who open an account at any BPI branch, as well as for existing clients whose cards are nearing expiry or scheduled for renewal.
Clients who wish to switch to the recycled, PVC-free card before their renewal date may request a replacement for a standard P200 fee.
“Reimagining the BPI Debit Mastercard to become an eco-friendly card is a testament to BPI’s commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Jenny Lacerna, head of mass retail at BPI, in a statement.
She added that the bank aims to connect with eco-conscious clients while encouraging others to adopt more sustainable habits.
Thoughtful design upgrade
Beyond its environmentally responsible materials, the new debit card features accessibility enhancements.
A curved notch located at the bottom left corner allows users to identify and orient the card by touch, making it easier to distinguish from other cards and improving usability for clients.
The refreshed design ensures that while the material evolves, the trusted features remain.
Seamless client access
Clients can request the new card through the BPI app or BPI Online and select their preferred branch for pickup. A P200 fee applies to card requests made via digital channels.
Those replacing an existing card may simply block their current one through the app to begin the replacement process.
Cards are available for branch pickup within two to six banking days, depending on location. Clients may also visit any branch for assistance.

The upgraded Debit Mastercard continues to offer secure online and in-store payments, contactless transactions, global ATM access, and 24/7 account control through the BPI app.
“The BPI Debit Mastercard is still the same card that our clients rely on — stylish, secure, and now more sustainable,” Lacerna said.
