  • Fast-food giant highlights cycling as part of its Green and Good sustainability program

McDonald’s Philippines is stepping deeper into active mobility and sustainability efforts as it backs the 2026 Tour of Luzon, positioning itself as the official meal provider for the country’s biggest cycling event.

The quick-service restaurant giant said it will fuel riders and event personnel with more than 8,000 meals across the cycling competition’s 14-stage race, underscoring its long-term commitment to promoting environmentally friendly transport alternatives.

The initiative comes as cycling continues to gain traction nationwide, driven by urban congestion, rising transportation costs, and increasing interest in sustainable mobility solutions.

The big picture

To kick off its involvement, McDonald’s Philippines hosted “The Heritage Ride” on April 26, an invitational cycling event attended by officials from McDonald’s Philippines, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), and other partners.

The ride started from CaSoBē in the coastal Batangas town of Calatagan and included a feed zone stop at McDonald’s Balayan, another heritage-rich municipality in the province, covering a total distance of 60.4 kilometers.

“Active mobility is an important part of McDonald’s Philippines’ commitment to sustainability, under our Green and Good program,” said Margot Torres, managing director of McDonald’s Philippines.

“Through our support for the prestigious Tour of Luzon, we also hope to shine a light on the benefits of cycling as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective mode of transport, which is especially useful during these challenging times.”

According to a company release, McDonald’s has been expanding sustainability-focused features in select branches nationwide, including Bike & Dine stations that allow cyclists to securely park bikes, rest, and access repair kits while dining.

Why it matters

The company has also intensified its cycling advocacy through “Ride the Arches,” a campaign launched in 2023 that encourages bikers to travel from one McDonald’s branch to another, with stores serving as pitstops and feed zones.

The initiative has since become one of McDonald’s more visible community-driven sustainability programs, blending mobility advocacy with customer engagement.

To capitalize on the Tour of Luzon buzz, McDonald’s is rolling out a Luzon-exclusive promo from April 26 to May 31, offering two McCafé Iced Coffee Original 16oz drinks for P89 through the McDo App.
