Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) has signed its first partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to strengthen digital governance, improve public service delivery, and align the state insurer's systems with the national government's digital transformation agenda.

The agencies formalized the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during PDIC's 63rd anniversary celebration on July 1 at the PDIC Chino Building in Makati City.

The agreement underscores the agencies' shared commitment to modernizing government services through technology while enhancing operational efficiency and cybersecurity.

Digital push

Under the MOU, the DICT will provide technical expertise in assessing PDIC's existing applications and information systems and recommend improvements to support the corporation's digital modernization efforts.

The collaboration also aims to ensure interoperability, synchronization, and integration between the agencies' systems in line with the government's e-Government objectives.

PDIC said the initiative would align its digital platforms with national ICT standards and frameworks, allowing the corporation to provide more seamless and efficient services to the public.

A key component of the partnership is the planned integration of PDIC services into the eGovPH app, the government's unified digital platform.

The move is expected to significantly expand PDIC's digital reach to nearly 60 million registered eGovPH users, making its services more accessible and convenient for depositors and other stakeholders.

Stronger systems

Beyond improving customer access, the partnership also seeks to reinforce PDIC's cybersecurity capabilities and support the development of additional digital applications that can enhance the corporation's internal operations.

PDIC president and CEO Roberto B. Tan said the collaboration goes beyond simply adopting new technologies.

"Through these efforts, we are not simply adopting technology but strengthening how we deliver our mandate," Tan said, emphasizing the importance of aligning PDIC's digital initiatives with the national government's priorities.

DICT Undersecretary for e-Government David L. Almirol Jr. likewise welcomed the partnership, describing it as another step toward building a more connected and citizen-focused government.

"I'm proud to reaffirm the DICT's unconditional support to the PDIC family. Our shared vision is clear: to build a synchronized, efficient, citizen-centered government," Almirol said.

Public trust

PDIC said the partnership reflects its continuing efforts to embrace digital innovation in fulfilling its mandate of protecting bank depositors and promoting confidence in the Philippine banking system.

The corporation said stronger digital infrastructure, enhanced cybersecurity, and integrated government platforms would enable it to respond more effectively to the evolving needs of the public while improving service delivery. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
