  • Maxicare Group says easier healthcare access helps reduce absenteeism and improve productivity
  • The HMO expanded its clinic network with nine new facilities this year
  • Teleconsultation sessions grew 93.5 percent year-on-year from 2024 to 2025

Maxicare Group is strengthening its push for accessible healthcare as Filipino workers continue to face rising transportation costs, long commutes, and limited time for medical consultations.

The country’s largest health maintenance organization said delayed healthcare has become a growing concern for both businesses and independent workers, as untreated conditions can lead to longer absences and lower productivity.

“Healthcare access is often a question of time and proximity,” Raymond Hernandez, Maxicare Group chief customer officer, said in a press statement.

“People delay consultations because of long commutes or the difficulty of stepping away from work. When care is easier to access, it becomes part of everyday life rather than something people postpone,” Hernandez added.

Through its Corporate HMO and MyMaxicare health plans, Maxicare integrates physical, digital, and preventive care into one ecosystem. These plan options let them access the company’s 45 Maxicare Clinics nationwide, which offer members consultations, diagnostics, and specialist care without needing a Letter of Authorization or using members’ Maximum Benefit Limit.

The big picture

Maxicare said it is expanding its integrated healthcare ecosystem through its Corporate HMO and MyMaxicare plans, combining physical clinics, teleconsultation, diagnostics, and preventive care services.

The company currently operates 45 Maxicare Clinics nationwide, where members can access consultations, diagnostics, and specialist care without needing a Letter of Authorization or using their Maximum Benefit Limit.

This year alone, Maxicare opened nine additional clinics to strengthen its nationwide healthcare network, which also includes more than 1,100 hospitals, 749 dental clinics, and 22,400 partner physicians.

The company also highlighted the growing demand for digital healthcare services. Its 24/7 teleconsultation with video call service posted 93.5 percent growth from 2024 to 2025 as more Filipinos sought faster and more convenient medical access.

Why it matters

Maxicare said accessible healthcare has become increasingly important for freelancers, gig workers, and self-employed Filipinos, many of whom operate without employer-backed benefits.

The company cited data showing around 42 percent of employed Filipinos work in the informal sector, making reliable healthcare access critical in minimizing income loss caused by illness or medical emergencies.

Beyond physical health, Maxicare also offers mental wellness support through Gen Zen, a counseling and guidance service aimed at addressing stress, burnout, and other emotional challenges.

“When care is accessible, people seek help early and can focus on their work and families. For businesses, healthcare is an investment that enables people to perform at their best,” Hernandez said. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
