Called MediCard H.E.R.O. (Health Emergency Response On-Demand), the plan is designed to provide emergency care and hospitalization coverage for individuals who may not have access to traditional health benefits, including delivery riders, Transportation Network Vehicle Service drivers, freelancers, informal workers, and solo parents.
“With the booming gig economy, MediCard wants to ensure that every Filipino has access to affordable, comprehensive emergency coverage anytime—especially for those who need it most. MediCard H.E.R.O. is designed to give peace of mind during urgent and unforeseen situations,” Julian Mengual, MediCard CEO, said in a press statement.
Why it matters
Healthcare costs remain a significant concern for many Filipinos, particularly those outside formal employment arrangements who often lack employer-sponsored medical coverage.
MediCard’s latest offering seeks to address this gap by providing an affordable safety net focused on emergency situations.
For a one-time payment of P6,000, equivalent to roughly P17 per day over a year, members receive coverage for 32 select emergency and nontrauma conditions.
Covered cases include accidental chemical poisoning, animal bites, and drowning, among others. The plan provides an Annual Benefit Limit of up to P60,000.
The big picture
MediCard said H.E.R.O. coverage is available through its network of more than 600 accredited hospitals nationwide, including select first-class medical facilities subject to applicable limits.
The company said the program was developed to ensure that quality emergency healthcare remains within reach for more Filipinos despite rising medical expenses.
The launch also supports AIA Philippines’ broader strategy of promoting accessible healthcare solutions. As of the end of 2024, AIA Philippines reported total assets of P257.76 billion and net worth of P57.35 billion while serving nearly 1.2 million individual policyholders and almost 800,000 insured group members.
