WINNING | BDO turns Facebook into OFW financial lifeline

Insider Spotlight

  • BDO Kabayan uses Facebook to give OFWs practical financial guidance, remittance updates and community-focused content
  • The platform has secured a Philippine Quill Award of Merit for the second straight year
  • BDO Remit says its digital strategy is designed to support overseas Filipinos beyond individual remittance transactions

For millions of Filipinos earning a living abroad, managing money is only one part of staying connected to home. BDO Unibank is positioning its BDO Kabayan Facebook Page as a digital support hub where overseas Filipino workers can find financial information while maintaining ties to the families and goals behind their remittances.

Award of Merit

That approach earned BDO Kabayan an Award of Merit in the Social Media category at the Philippine Quill Awards for the second consecutive year. This year’s recognition was given to its “Alagang Kabayan: Where Every Kabayan Belongs” campaign, highlighting the platform’s efforts to engage overseas Filipinos with relevant and practical content.

Financial literacy

Digital platforms have become an important information channel for Filipinos overseas. Through BDO Kabayan, BDO Remit publishes financial tips, remittance-related updates and other content aimed at helping OFWs make informed decisions about their finances.

“Every remittance represents hard work, sacrifice, and commitment to family. Through the BDO Kabayan Facebook Page, we aim to provide useful information and a sense of community for Filipinos overseas as they manage their financial responsibilities and work toward their goals,” BDO senior vice president and head of remittance Genie T. Gloria said in a press statement.

Dedicated online space

The campaign is part of BDO Remit’s broader Alagang Kabayan commitment, which seeks to extend support beyond the transfer of money itself. The Facebook page gives OFWs a dedicated online space to access useful information, learn from shared experiences and remain connected to the people and aspirations driving their work abroad.

What’s next

The recognition reinforces how banks can use social channels not only for marketing, but also for financial education and sustained customer engagement. For BDO, the strategy turns a remittance-focused relationship into an ongoing digital connection with Filipinos wherever they work. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
