West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is strengthening employee, customer and investor engagement as it tackles water losses and builds its presence in the capital markets.

The initiatives recently earned Maynilad five recognitions at the 22nd Philippine Quill Awards, including three Awards of Excellence for programs covering water loss reduction, crisis response and public engagement, and two Awards of Merit related to its initial public offering (IPO).

Cutting losses

A key focus is non-revenue water (NRW), or water produced but lost to physical and commercial losses before it can generate revenue.

Maynilad’s “Grand Walk-the-Line” program mobilized employees across the organization to take part in its NRW reduction efforts, earning an Award of Excellence.

Its “Leak Warriors 2025” social media campaign, developed with ID8 Inc., meanwhile enlisted customers and communities to report visible leaks. Reported leaks increased 142 percent year on year during the campaign period.

The initiative also received an Award of Excellence.

Managing disruption

Maynilad received another Award of Excellence for its communications during the Pritil leak repair incident, a major service disruption that required the concessionaire to keep customers updated despite limited lead time and changing operational conditions.

The program was recognized under Issues Management and Crisis Communication.

Investor push

Maynilad also used communications to support its transition into the public markets and explain its business and long-term growth prospects to investors.

Its financial and investor relations campaign surrounding its P34.3-billion IPO received an Award of Merit, while its media relations program for the public market debut received another.

“These programs addressed very different communication challenges. What ties them together is the need to understand what each audience needs to know and how communication can help them act on that information. These recognitions reinforce our commitment to communication that is clear, timely, responsive, and purposeful,” said Maynilad VP and head of corporate affairs & communication Marie Antonette H. de Ocampo. — Ed: Corrie S.
