For 33 years, Amparo Lim Pe was a warm and easy presence in her daughter-in-law’s life.
Amparo, the mother of lawyer and businessman Perry Pe, passed away at the age of 93, Robina shared in a heartfelt tribute on Facebook.
“There was always a lot of laughter between us, and moments with her were always light. Their home in Makati has always been filled with food, and it’s practically a sin to visit without having some of her sotanghon and turon.”
Born on June 19, 1933, on the island of Cuyo, Amparo was a “true-blue Palaweña.”
A colegiala, she completed her pharmacy degree at the University of Santo Tomas. She affectionately called Robina “Bens,” in her gentle way of saying “Bins,” short for Robina.
Robina later realized that bens in modern Cuyonon slang can mean “bro” or suggest a kind of “secret sisterhood.”
“In the 33 years I have been married to her eldest son, Perry, she never once bugged me about anything,” Robina wrote, adding that Amparo took her reminders directly to Perry—even when he was already well past 60.
“I will miss laughing and eating with her, and I will miss hearing her call me ‘Bens,’” Robina wrote.
