For the second year, Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment recognized the company for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 10,000 tons in 2023, equivalent to planting more than 800,000 trees. This was achieved through the use of solar energy, recycling, waste segregation, and converting organic waste into animal feed.
Additionally, URC Thailand’s Factory No. 5 and Warehouse Raw Material 2 were granted the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) logo by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization for their environmental efforts.
Management’s view
“This year, URC once again shows its dedication to conducting business with consideration for people, communities, society, and the environment,” Tanant Suwanraks, vice president and general manager for Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, said in a statement.
“At URC, we believe in the power of collaboration. We have consistently instilled a sense of sustainability in people, including our customers and employees, aiming to make the world a better place,” Suwanraks said.
Climate change awareness
Meanwhile, URC Thailand also launched the URGreen Upcycling Uniform project to raise awareness about global warming among employees. The project encourages staff to collect water bottles, which are recycled into uniforms and featured in an internal fashion show. This initiative also promotes inclusivity, with employees from diverse backgrounds modeling the uniforms.
Near-term target
By 2025, URC Thailand aims to produce 4,800 recycled uniforms from 67,000 bottles, reducing carbon emissions by 8,300 kilograms—equivalent to planting 700 trees.
Its efforts extend beyond environmental programs. Popular brands Fun-O and Tivoli were named top in the Biscuit and Wafer categories at the 2023 Top Influential Brands Awards by Influential Brands Singapore. The company also received recognition as an “outstanding food manufacturer,” a title it has held since 2020, and its Dewberry Puff Cake Orange was honored for using local raw materials.
