Why it matters
The property’s architectural vision has now gained regional attention after securing the Outstanding Architecture–Hotels / Resorts (Project Outside of Hong Kong) Gold Award at the Build4Asia 2026 Awards, a recognition that highlights excellence and innovation in Asia’s built environment.
Designed by Arquitectonica, the hotel features bronze metallic curtain wall panels and wave-like fins inspired by the movement of Manila Bay.
The result is a distinctive structure that integrates aesthetics, guest experience, and operational functionality while contributing to the evolving skyline of the Mall of Asia complex.
The big picture
Hospitality developers are increasingly investing in properties that combine strong architectural identity with environmental performance as travelers place greater value on sustainable accommodations and experiential stays.
Environmental stewardship is central to the project. The development incorporates insulated glass unit glazing, integrated shading devices, and provisions for future district cooling systems designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance guest comfort.
The property also holds Green Key Certification, a globally recognized eco-label for tourism establishments meeting stringent environmental standards.
“Design has the power to shape how people connect with places and create lasting memories,” SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) executive vice president Peggy Angeles said in a press statement.
“This award reflects our commitment to building hospitality destinations that are purposeful, future-ready, and centered on the evolving needs of our guests,” she added.
