Toyota’s TAP stays on green track, renews supply deal with MPower

Toyota Aisin Philippines Inc. (TAP) has renewed its partnership with MPower, the retail electricity arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), reinforcing a decade-long collaboration aimed at driving efficiency and sustainability in manufacturing.

The renewed Retail Electricity Supply Agreement ensures that TAP will continue to benefit from MPower’s reliable and cost-effective energy solutions for its Sta. Rosa, Laguna facility—the first manual transmission manufacturing plant under Toyota Motor Corp.  located outside Japan.

“At TAP, we continuously seek partners who not only share our values but also contribute to our operational excellence and sustainability goals. MPower has consistently ensured seamless operations aligned with our clean energy commitment,” said TAP acting general manager Allan Cantal.

Since 2013, TAP has depended on MPower for its electricity needs, a partnership that supported its successful transition to 100 percent renewable energy in December 2019. This shift aligns with Toyota’s global carbon neutrality roadmap, underscoring TAP’s role as a key player in Toyota’s international supply chain, with 95 percent of drivetrain components exported to global affiliates.

MPower, led by Meralco first vice president Redel Domingo, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership. “We are honored to support Toyota Aisin Philippines in achieving its sustainability and innovation goals. Through dependable and competitively priced energy solutions, we empower businesses like TAP to lead in their industries,” Domingo said.

This renewed alliance emphasizes the importance of sustainable energy partnerships in the industrial sector, especially as companies increasingly align with global environmental standards. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
