The contract renewal extends MPower’s energy supply to major subsidiaries of JG Summit Holdings, including Robinsons Land Corp., Cebu Pacific, Universal Robina Corp., JG Summit Olefins Corp., and RL Commercial REIT Inc. It also covers Robinsons Supermarket Corp. under Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc.
The deal builds on a partnership that began in 2013 and reinforces both groups' shared push for reliable, cost-efficient, and increasingly sustainable energy.
“This agreement goes beyond securing a reliable power supply—it represents our collective commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said JG Summit president and CEO Lance Y. Gokongwei, noting that the agreement allows the integration of a 60-percent renewable energy mix into operations.
The partnership underscores a strategic shift in corporate energy sourcing, as conglomerates like JG Summit move toward decarbonization goals aligned with national and global climate targets.
Meralco chair and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan emphasized the long-standing nature of the partnership: “Our two groups have shared more than just business interests—we’ve shared a deep commitment to nation-building, innovation, and service to the Filipino people.”
The deal highlights MPower’s growing footprint in the competitive retail electricity sector, where it remains one of the country’s leading providers. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
