Anya Resort shifts to geothermal power under First Gen deal

Anya Resort Tagaytay has shifted its electricity supply to geothermal energy under an agreement with First Gen Corp., as the luxury hotel seeks to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations.

The 7.2-hectare leisure and wellness estate in Tagaytay City began sourcing geothermal power from First Gen’s Unified Leyte facilities in late September 2026.

The resort, owned by Roxaco Land Corp., finalized the renewable energy agreement as it marked its ninth anniversary.

Anya Resort Tagaytay general manager Mikel Arriet said reducing the carbon intensity of the hotel’s electricity consumption was among its sustainability priorities.

“Sustainability and environmental consciousness are not just goals for us at Anya, but practices we integrate in various aspects of our operation. Energy efficiency is a top priority for us as we aim to significantly reduce the carbon intensity of our electricity usage,” Arriet said.

Lower carbon footprint

Geothermal energy provides electricity using heat from beneath the earth’s surface and is considered a renewable source of power.

Anya Resort Tagaytay resort manager Melody Amacio said the shift was intended to reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint while maintaining services for guests.

“Using geothermal power for the resort is not just a cost management measure, but also a boost in reducing our carbon footprint, while ensuring unhampered comfort and conveniences for our guests; and we’re pleased that we have finally been able to accomplish this in partnership with First Gen,” Amacio said.

The resort said the transition complements other sustainability measures covering environmental stewardship, ethical sourcing, sustainable livelihoods, cultural preservation, employment and community partnerships.

Its sustainability program is organized around three pillars: Kalikhasan for environmental stewardship, Yamanlikha for ethical sourcing and sustainable livelihoods, and Bayanihanon for cultural preservation, fair employment and community partnerships.

Renewable supply

First Gen head of sales and engagement Arlene Soriano said the company would support Anya and Roxaco Land in their decarbonization efforts through renewable energy supply and measures to improve energy efficiency.

“We are committed to supporting Anya Resort Tagaytay and the Roxaco Land team in achieving decarbonization goals by using RE supply and improve energy efficiency and utilization,” Soriano said.

Officials of the two companies also planted a narra tree at the resort’s Tala Garden to mark the renewable energy partnership.

Anya Resort Tagaytay is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and holds platinum certification, according to the company.

Clean energy portfolio

First Gen has 31 renewable energy facilities with a combined capacity of about 1,700 megawatts. Its portfolio includes geothermal, hydroelectric, solar and wind power facilities.

The company also provides energy-efficiency and behind-the-meter solutions to complement its renewable power supply.
